It seemed like only a week ago we were posting up the first round of the Castrol Edge D1NZ drifting championship. With Round 2 set for Pukekohe, many of the drivers were bracing themselves for the fastest drift corner in the world. 200kph+ entry means that the drivers must get a huge run up over Ford mountain and into the sweeper. With many casualties at the corner before, many drivers were just hoping not to ruin their cars, with some willing to put it all on the line for top points.
On the first day we saw the Pro Am competition. The pro am competition allows for new drivers to get out and make their way up to the professional league.

A while back I headed out to the Pukekohe open day with the E&H Motors team. We had the Subaru Impreza out and Cam’s SSR R32. The day surprisingly held out for the weather and allowed various cars to get out and test their performance.

We used to be regulars to the JZX meets for a while, but with Uni getting in the way we had to take a break. After Uni had finished we decided to go catch up with some mates and bring our own Chaser along to the meet.

After speculation that Nizfest may not be returning for 2011, it was great news to see that it had returned! With Nissan’s from all across the country coming to Hampton Downs, it was a great chance to see some cars that often don’t get seen much.

The opening D1NZ event of the year was by far one of the most fun drift events I have been involved in. With the mix or rain, rubber, and turbo’s spooling how could you not enjoy this? The events started Friday morning and guess who decided to show up…the rain! During the first couple hours of the event the drivers were still spinning off the track and into the large puddles, which was quite entertaining. After finishing up Friday there was 16 Pro Am drivers left who would be competing on Saturday for the number 1 spot! Saturday brought everyone a lovely surprise, which was accompanied by short shorts and sunscreen. Yep it brought the sun, which lead to some really exciting drifting. Mad Mike was consistent all day Friday and Saturday that helped him grab the number 2 qualifying spot. Mad Mike was then able to stay on top to finish 1st place with Andrew Redward in 2nd and Fanga Dan in 3rd place.

As a new Hori Dori arrived, we decided that instead of our usual photography of the event, we would instead cover it with a video. Check out the video below, send it around, get it viral and give us some feedback!

Getting an invite along to the Drift Empire day, I happily said yes. I’ve never been to one of their days before, so I was keen to see what they had to offer. Arriving a tad late, I spotted a wide array of cars that were well built and all looking very tough. With a mix of old school Japanese cars, these guys have a great set of cars.

It was that time of the year again for the NAC Insurance NZ Drift Nationals held out at Hampton Downs. With the event set up to showcase many different drivers and a series of rounds, drifters were out to showcase their talent to a large crowd before D1NZ starts. Along with the drifting was a series of Super lap races.
